All about Cash Drawers

A Cash Drawer (also known as a Till) is a major component of a Point of Sale System and is used to store and secure your money, cash and other valuables. Cash Drawers can be either electronic or mechanical depending on the application but when using as a part of a POS System, they are generally electronic and connect to your Point of Sale System directly or via a POS Receipt Printer.

If you are looking for a compatible Cash Drawer to use with your Point of Sale System, you are best to refer to our POS Cash Drawer section. POS Cash Drawers are designed for use with Point of Sale Systems or POS Terminals. They have the RJ12 Connection type which connects directly to your receipt printer and are most common when using iPad, Local & Cloud based POS Systems. The sizes of the drawers differ slightly depending on the brand and these are compact drawers to fit into those smaller places or where a small footprint is required. 

An alternate option for a standard POS Cash Drawer would be the Flip Top Cash Drawer range. These can be recessed into a bench top or can be used like a standard cash drawer but does save space having a lesser depth, however, they are top opening unlike a traditional cash drawer. The flip top drawers are available as standard (RJ12 Connection) but also available in USB so just make sure you check the product title and description to ensure you are choosing the most suitable interface for your requirements.

Sometime you don't want to connect to a POS System at all and just need a manual cash drawer. We have a few manual cash drawers operating in their own unique ways. We have Push Button opening, Key Opening & "Push to Open, Push to Close" cash drawers. All of our POS Cash Drawers can be opened manually with a key but do come with a cable as well. This way you can connect them to a POS System or Receipt Printer at any stage but over time, you will find that the key will break and need replacing. We do have an electronic push button trigger which allows you to open the drawer without a key but you would need power. This is where the "Push to Open, Push to close" OR manual push button drawers may be more suitable as they can be used without power. Cash Drawer & Printer combination are regularly asked about. If you are using an iPad POS System, you can use any of our POS Cash Drawers to connect to a receipt printer. There is also the Star Micronics mPOP which can be used with a tablet (more commonly an iPad) system but you must ensure that the software has been developed to work with this drawer. This is a unique all-in-one solution utilising a Bluetooth Cash Drawer & Receipt Printer Point of Purchase (POP) which is space saving, portable and convenient.
