A POS Terminal is an electronic or computerised business machine which generally replaces a cash register. The point of sale (POS) or point of purchase (POP) is where the sale takes place and the POS Terminal (Point of Sale Terminal) is the piece of equipment in which the POS Software is loaded to cater for inventory management, CRM, financials, or warehousing.

Most businesses operate from a Point of Sale (POS) Terminal of some type no matter which platform is being used so they can process business transactions smoothly with the least amount of friction possible. The modern Point of Sale Software vendors generally cater for Touch Screen POS Systems which are either local or cloud based so the database can be stored locally on the POS System or directly through an internet browser. 

The most common platform for a POS Terminal is Windows and this is why most of our Point of Sale Terminals include a Windows operating system. There are some exceptions to this which include embedded POS Terminals and Android POS System which come with a Software pre-installed.
