All about Printer Driven Cash Drawers

Printer Driven or Receipt Printer Driven Cash Drawers have a cable running out of the back or under the drawer which has a telephone style connector at the end (known as an RJ11 or RJ12) of approximately 1-1.5m in length. This cable which will plug directly into the Drawer Kick (DK) port of your POS Receipt Printer. 

The Cash Drawer has a 24 volt solenoid which activates when printing the receipt or when the software sends the command to the printer to activate the port to open the drawer. This will generally happen automatically when you use the software vendors software but there are come cases where you will need to go into the printer driver and manually force the cash drawer to open which is generally a simple procedure.
