All about Wireless Receipt Printers

Wireless & Bluetooth Receipt Printers have become more popular with Tablet based point of sale systems. There is a difference between wireless (wifi) and bluetooth as to how they communicate and work with your POS System.

A Wireless receipt printer connects to your wireless router or modem just like your mobile phone, laptop, tablet or computer using the router/modem SSID and Password. It is almost the same as pluging in a LAN or Ethernet cable directly to the router but obviously wireless! Sometimes, depending on the brand and model of printer, you do need to connect the printer to the network via cable to configure it before disconnecting and having it then communicate via wifi. The great thing about wireless as opposed to bluetooth is that wireless printers allow you to have multiple computers or tablets all printing to the one printer. Bluetooth only pairs to one tablet at a time so you are a little limited. Wireless printers do require a little extra work to setup so you will need to make sure you have a small amount of knowledge.
