This model has the capability of printing both Thermal Transfer (Ribbon) OR Direct Thermal (No Ribbon) print methods.

When you use a ribbon, the printer will transfer that ribbon to the actual label. 

Thermal Transfer Printers and Labels are better suited to companies whose products need to endure friction, changes in temperature or dampness and last more than 6 months. They are ideal for places with direct sunlight or higher heated areas. They are also great for nurseries although you must ensure you use the correct media/label type for this known as Vinyl or Poly which are also weatherproof.
